History

The Wodonga Raiders Football and Sports Club originates from the Kergunyah Football Club that originally played in the Tallangatta and District Football League. In 1976 that club became the Wodonga Demon's Football and Sports Club and games were played at Martin Park, Wodonga. The Rural City of Wodonga Council had the foresight to develop sporting facilities at West Wodonga and the "Demon's" moved to Biralee Park.

During the mid 1980's the Club made a series of applications to join the Ovens and Murray Football League. In 1988 the club was accepted into the League.

Prior to the start of the 1989 season the club appointed Mark Turner as Senior Coach. Mark was given the task of taking a club consisting of basically minor league players to a team capable of matching it with other clubs at a major league standard. The contributions that Mark Turner made in forming and developing the club between 1989 and 1992 laid a very strong foundation for future successes.

The clubs first game in the Ovens and Murray League was an away game against Benalla. The Thirds and Reserves had victories with the seniors going down by 4 points with the last kick of the day. The seniors went through a learning phase for the rest of the season. The Reserves won a number of games while the Thirds made the finals. The Thirds went on to win the premiership for 1989 with Ivor Waite as Thirds Coach. The rest is history...
